The Freelance Lifestyle: Benefits & Why You Should Join the Revolution

Are you currently struggling with making ends meet in your current 9-5 job? Are you interested in learning more about how to ditch that daily grind and work for yourself?

I’d like to introduce you to freelancing.

Freelancing is providing services to clients on a project or a contract basis. You are self-employed instead of being a W2 employee for one company.

Freelancers work in a variety of industries, like

  • writing

  • graphic design

  • web development

  • marketing

  • consulting

With very little limitation of what you can do or where you can work, it’s basically a career where you offer online services across the nation or across the world. I actually have clients based in Taiwan, Australia, the UK, and India.

In a recent study conducted by Upwork and Edelman at the rate freelancing is climbing across the world there are expected to be over 90 million freelancers by 2028 contributing to over 58% of the US Workforce.

So what are the benefits of freelancing, you ask?

There are a ton of benefits, but here are my top three:

  1. The median pay rate for a freelancer right now is $28 per hour, which is higher than 70% of us workers right now.

  2. You get to make your own schedule. You literally work for No One except for the clients whom you choose.

  3. You get to work from home. All you really need is a laptop and a cell phone, and you’re set.

I went from making $4,000 a month in my full-time job to $100k in less than six months, and I owe it all to freelancing.

Some of the common questions I get when I talk about becoming a freelancer are:

So I don’t need any special skills to be a freelancer?

False. With any job, you need to know what you can offer clients. If you approach freelancing with a “wing-it” attitude, you probably won’t get any decent jobs, and you won’t have a strategy for success. You need to have skills and know what those skills are because the whole goal is to offer services to clients based on those skills.

Does it cost anything to start?

Nope! If you have skills, discipline, a desire to work hard, and maybe even a little creative streak, there is no monetary investment to get started as a freelancer.

What if I don’t know what to freelance?

Going back to those skills you do have if you’re not sure how to determine what you should be offering, schedule a call to talk with me so we can work together to dive deep into what you already bring to the table and then craft a monetizable skill around that.

What if I’m already freelancing, but I’m just not getting clients?

You may need an audit of what you’re already doing. This would be a different kind of chat, and I’d be happy to help you with this.

What if the skills I have just don’t meet any of what a typical freelancer does?

Doesn’t matter. I am self-taught in every service I offer with Evolushen Designs. I literally watched YouTube videos and took HubSpot Academy free courses for a year.

Freelancing gives a lot of people a quick way to make some extra money. But if you’re part of the 53% of people who think that freelancing could be a career choice, shoot me an email; I’d love to help you get started.
